Upon further review-I don't read much of this genre. However I would definitely recommend the author Brandon Massey! I've read two of his books, 'Nana' and 'The Darkness To Come'.

I read The Ballad of Black Tom last year. It was a retelling, so I’m not sure if that’s the reason why I didn’t feel very connected to the story. It didn’t put me off tho, just needed to try out a different story! I’m confident about this one

Omg! Wow not me forgetting I also read The Ballad of Black Tom! 🤣 I also felt disconnected due to it being a retelling of something I've never read. I'm looking forward to reading other books by him because yeah I didn't fully dislike it..just didn't fully stick on my mind(clearly lol)

Read the Parable of the Sower first, or talents will make no sense.
