Can't get behind this hatred of "fake" buildings. The same historical preservationists that force us to keep old buildings at great cost then frown on people for wanting to replicate older styles of architecture.

It's such a pointed criticism considering the building is a near-prism and makes no attempt to pass off as authentically Italianate. It's clearly inspired by that history, but the brickwork (especially the cornice) is completely contemporary.
I'd gladly see this built in Melb. Sadly our planning system would demand the massing is broken up with more "in and out" and that there's a lack of varying materials. And obviously the planning department will cave to unqualified public opinion so you'd have to "wedding cake" the shit out of it
