Well, on avg. you have far more cameras there being intrusive in public. Given you're losing the war on being able to speak privately with anti-encryption legislation passing, i'm not sure how disabling CCTV cams others own can be legal.
We have laws in many places here preventing certain uses of cameras that are installed. Generally speaking traffic infractions are the thing that they are allowed for.
But, that doesn't mean it won't/can't change, but cities like mine here in Seattle won't go for them being placed everywhere.
Here in Seattle people show up and protest with cameras being placed in neighborhoods, even traffic cameras being placed have been struck down at times from the people.
In the UK it's a surveillance state and has been for a long time now. Here we speak out and often prevent it.
We have strict laws preventing traffic cameras for example (The only kinds of cameras used by the gov't here unlike the UK who uses them to surveil citizens for any/all crimes), which prevent them from being used like the UK.
