Did you know Hereward the Wake resisted the Norman invasion from 1066-1071 with his base and fortress being Ely Cathedral. He was betrayed by the monks of the Cathedral in 1071 who showed the Norman besiegers a route through the bogs and marsh of the fens around Ely.
