It was cancelled at noon. For quakes near California, alerts are posted if there’s a large offshore quake with even a hint of vertical displacement of seafloor in initial data, which happened here. But after getting more data it became apparent there was not uplift and no DART buoys were triggered.

The Tsunami Warning Center will keep alerts up until it is certain there is no threat, usually after predicted tsunami travel times pass with no triggering of the DART buoys or observed changes in tidal gauges. Trans-pacific tsunami warnings can last 15+ hours.

I was admittedly disappointed when my landlord did some safety retrofitting and it impacted my ability to notice shaking 😆

My new office is in a relatively new building designed to protect a major HPC facility during a quake (it's probably only a few hundred feet from the hayward 🫨) or wildfire.

I was watching the birds' reactions on my fence while they were eating when it hit since we had prior notification from the phone and they took off instantly! It wasn't that strong but enough to spook them!

Last bit before I return to grading:
The MyShake Earthquake Early Warning App worked great! I received warning at 10:44am and p-waves first arrived at my house at 10:45:45. So I had about 1 minute warning. Its snap assessment of magnitude M6.7 was also pretty great. (More data = revision to M7).

Here is the USGS aftershock forecast. It’s impossible to predict an earthquake’s specifics (date/time/place/size) BUT seismologists can model the likelihood of future quakes based on a multitude of factors that let them forecast probabilities over the next 7 days

It was interesting listening to the radio, they had a reporter on who stopped mid-sentence and you could hear his phone going off. Being in the East Bay we had nothing, he then mentioned he just rec'd an earthquake alert. Within a minute a few posts were on Weather West about it. Amazing tech!

Ha! I also have a small chandelier in our stairwell which acts as our earthquake verifier. “Was that an earthquake!?! Check the chandelier!”
