10. Get the apps for your favorite restaurants because they have deals you won’t see elsewhere. That’s why I can enjoy an Impossible Whopper for $3 on Wednesdays (they’re usually more than double that).

11. You’ll hear a lot of really great bands at smaller venues (like the Town Ballroom in Buffalo). They don’t have seating so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Dress in layers because it gets hot. And wear earplugs! Don’t be stupid the way we were 40 years ago.

12. If you’re driving from Monterey to San Francisco (or San Francisco to Monterey), get off 101 and spend an afternoon in Capitola. It’s a beautiful little oceanside town with colorful buildings and delicious food (at least one great Mexican restaurant). A definite hidden gem!

13. Two must-see concert tours while they’re still around : Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band and Ringo’s All-Starrs. The lineup for the first doesn’t change but expands; for the second it varies but it’s always good. Expensive but worth it. You’ll see some of the best living rock musicians!

13a. Paul McCartney is also one of the best concert experiences you can have, despite the expense. His voice is not at all what it was but he puts on a great show. He also has some excellent musicians touring with him.

14. Watch movie credits. All of them. First, why not take a moment to digest what you saw? Second, show the crew some love. Third, you’ll learn about the music and locations. Fourth, you never know if there will be a post-credits scene.
