17. Visit Wales. It’s gorgeous, historic, and the people are super friendly. Even though it’s a long haul, make the trek to Portmeirion. Required if you’re a fan of The Prisoner, but a great escape (ha!) even if you’re not. I’ve only been to Wales once but I NEED to go back. Portmeirion too!

18. Whatever city you visit and wherever you live, walk around and pay attention to the public art installations. You’ll probably find background info online, and you may find organized tours, which are worth it. Just about every city has great public art, and it’s free!

19. Schedule date nights even if you’re an old married couple. They don’t have to be weekly, just more than once or twice a year. It’s important to have fun time out with just your partner.

20. When they’re old enough to appreciate it, take your children on nights out. I’ve had fun nights for years going to plays and concerts with each of my kids. Now that my daughter is 21, we can actually go to bars and clubs, which is great.

21. Use pillow protectors. They’re the (usually white) zippered cases that go over the pillow and under the pillowcase. They’re hygienic and will make your pillows last much longer (don’t forget to take them off at least once a year and wash them).

22. Fuel your kids’ creativity, but take their leads for how that looks. In my daughter’s case it meant always having pen and paper to write or draw. For my son, it meant letting him go through recycling to find ways to build models.
