You said something on the GB couch at SGF last year that really spoke to me. Jeff asked us all about what advice we'd give to anyone trying to make it in the industry, there was the jokey answer of "don't!" from most of us, (1/2)
but you said something like "if you're interested in this space, we need you." I've been thinking about that. I'm not sure I can recommend anyone tries to make it in the space, but I still like that idea since nothing is ever going to change unless new people come in and choose to make it better.2/2
don't try to 'make it' that's for sure. do work you're proud of without the expectation of getting any kind of renumeration for it. but you're right, this industry still needs you
I used to work at a school and recently one of my former students asked be about how to get into the industry and my first reaction was "don't" until I started thinking about what you said. I think it's really powerful advice
