What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Every one hour of an audiobook takes three hours of work. You burn hours trying to drink away mouth pops, redoing too loud or too soft lines, and forgetting how to say “penguin”

Publishers do not pay games journalists, but they do pay streamers to play their games. This is fine so long as it is disclosed, but for some reason, it results in people trusting the word of streamers more than actual games critics.

True but belied by the reality that games journalism is super access dependent and that there are thus perverse incentives to soft-pedal critiques of major releases. (This is also a problem in political journalism.)

I wish more people understood what an incredibly stupid idea "games payola" is. Bought coverage is an inefficient way to get a videogame to sell. This holds true for any entertainment product.
