Hmmm… I can definitely see that… thing is I view Denji’s character arc on a different path. In Part 2 he’s constantly holding himself accountable for things that aren’t his fault. He wants to punish himself or have other people punish him to make it right, but he’s finally starting to gain some
insight and realize that it’s not his fault, he didn’t kill his family—other people did. (Dad excluded but yknow). He’s allowed to seek pleasure in life and want things. Makima trained him to believe that he wasn’t allowed to, and his response in this chapter is to her.
Maybe I’m just viewing this too much from my own life experiences and what I would mean if I were saying those things but it’s very difficult for me to interpret much of anything in this chapter as him heading toward detachment as a coping mechanism.
