it's such a great ending. it feels like the perfect ending for part 1 in the moment, a genuine triumph of the character that leaves denji fulfilled, contented, and more or less happy, but then part 2 is all about deconstructing why it actually *isn't* that.

He was close to going another way there but the thing that immediately made him not feel awful even if it was worse for him and others being presented right there just… yeah. Doomed. I’m gonna take an issue with this. There have been a few plot seeds leading up to this. 1: he told Nayuta that he liked Asa because she was the only one who kissed him and nothing bad happened. 2: he explodes in anger at Yoru when she again tries to get sexual with him in the Aging world…

3: he specifically freaks out about how diametrically opposed Asa/Yoru are in Aging World and then is given an explanation that can unravel all the disharmony.

What I’m saying is that I think he wants to learn that it was Yoru who assaulted him so he can continue to view Asa in a positive light.

Yes, he’s giddy horny. I don’t doubt that he’s consciously thinking more about sex in the moment. But I really don’t blame him after the immensely traumatic experience he’s had in just one day. I think he’s going to take a step back after he learns Asa is innocent and be at peace.

To me, the fact that denji focused on the kiss being associated with no pain as the reason why he’s fixated on asa is actually a sign of how he doesn’t prioritize her over the intimacy she gives. it’s not that /asa/ kissed him painlessly, it’s that he experienced a kiss without pain.

in the immediate aftermath of the assault, once again asa is not considered when reconciling with the sexual contact he experienced. It was “someone else”- not asa, not “a girl I like”. Entirely removed from her.

his pushing away of Yoru from her advances was not so much that it felt from the wrong person but that the sexual feelings inspired by them were, at that moment, incredibly contradictory and confusing with his despair.
