If you've got a good friend who isn't afraid to be loud that you'd feel comfortable speaking on your behalf I recommend bringing that person in with you. If I bring my partner with me doctors tend to take me a lot more seriously. Wish it wasn't that way but being fat is distracting for them ig 🙄
Telling them to write out their care plan and that they'd rather you lose weight and refused to look at alternatives also can work to change their tune. It can hard advocating that harshly when it's your own body, though. The shame that's drilled into us for existing makes it even more difficult.
I'd def say if you're concerned, perhaps stop at your local urgent care! I'm registration at the one around me and we get chest pain/shortness of breath every day so it's something they can evaluate you on! At least give ya peace of mine and perhaps give you something to hold you over till doctors!
the last time i went to the doctor and that mf really was focused less on the fact i had chemical burns on my hands and moreso im "morbidly obese" like yeah that sucks but sir. what am i gonna do in the future with These
My least favorite part about going to the doctors ever! I got married to a cis man and its sad that has completely changed the interactions I have with medical staff now. When hes around they take me more seriously….
Really hope they dont hit you with that bs. If they do, ask the doctor to put it in writing that they denied to do further testing the patient requested.
I also recommend (if you can) keeping a diary/log of your symptoms, if your symptoms are physical take pictures or videos to show to doctors!
advice I saw on Tumblr once went along the lines of asking the doctor "okay but if you had a patient with an average bmi and these symptoms, what would you say to *them*?" and then try to pursue whatever it is they'd recommend to a skinny bitch
they told me this and it ended up that i had POTS and needed surgery on my ankle (two unrelated issues but both were first suggested "hmmm loss weight exercise more?")
Me: yeah the back deformity that's bothered me since birth is still acting up could we please give me back the painkillers so I can exercise and lose weight to get hernia surgery.
