i really dont like the term poc bc it just feels the same as calling someone colored. i think my issue with it is that it literally just means “not white” but like i am completely different from a black person or an indian person, us “poc” can’t all be referred to as the same thing when we are -
Lord that reminds of the shit i heard where some people will go "The only race is the human race, Differences divide blah blah blah" thinking they fixed racism
bcz poc doenst mean black, it includes everyone that is non white
its the same as queer, queer just means someone who inst a normie jdksjf
but yeah ur just a fat black guy 🔥🔥🔥🔥 and this is cool as fuck so i understand how u feel about it
because "POC" stands for more than just black people. It can stand for Black, brown, asian ECT. Plus people don't use the word "Black" because referring to someone as that in any context can be taken incorrectly.
POC is for talking about the group as a whole (usually in reference to American racism) while more specific labels like black are used when talking about a specific person.
You can always tell when someone has no non-white friends based on how they use the word lol
Nah just that one breed of liberal that tries to constantly make up terms for minorities and is very corporate bootlicking and shoves head in sand at the drop of any threat to minorities to save their own ass.
liberalism invented all the capitalist propaganda you see today, conservatives (lazy liberals) copied the homework because they're terminally uncreative
Yes?? This was pushed by the American collegiate culture, over top of the voices of many racial minority groups. Language is fluid, & a lot of the people POC applies to dont like it anymore. POC was the "right thing" for a while, now its fading away.
Sometimes I see why cuckservatives hate ppl like yall. You want everyone to follow your rules. You can't have your ckae and eat it too. Can't ask others to respect your wishes on how to be addressed and then bitch about other terms used to try and be inclusive yall are worse than cucks
Perfectly valid. Just was stating but you probably already knew those terms too. I have my preferences too but given how few of my race exist, it's harder to voice my preferences. I will be sure to try to remember your preference though. Peace to you.
'POC' is a 'nice', 'neutral' term. To us white folks it feels like it's a better alternative. I'm not usually one to break out the term 'politically correct', but basically that.
Not an excuse, of course. Most folk I know prefer to be called black, and so you're a black artist. End of.
As a white person, I think it might come from how aot of us were taught that POC is the "correct" and "respectful" way to say it. But really we should just ask how people wanna be referred to. I'm still trying to unlearn a lot of that shit tbh
i get it. to use the term that by definition means "anyone who isn't white" on someone who's ethnicity is pretty plainly shown or stated is, to say the VERY least, redundant
just say who they are (ofc without being racist about it) 😭 it's not that hard
at the same time tho, it may also come down to if the person really wants that sorta attention on their irl identity online. yknow, to keep bad actors from trying to id them. but more often than not, that's not the case and they'd probably like not JUST being called a person of color
Coming from an academic viewpoint, it always feels so odd having to refer to "poc" in academic texts because it literally just translates to "white people" and "the others". It's so centered on white people being the "default setting" or "the norm".
I think it's coz a lot of people are worried about how people are gonna react, as I would say black as to me that's right but I've multiple people through life tell me that i shouldn't
It's frustrating that folks don't realize how micro-aggressive it is to do that. Especially when talking about the unique oppression that Black people face.
I still think about a--I assume--well-meaning post highlighting issues queer POC face and they listed out Asian, Hispanic, Latino, Native American, but then they said POC instead of black
I grew up thinking saying "black" was like.. Not necessarily a slur but like, frowned upon. Just kinda stuck through into adulthood to just use "African American" for me anyways
