sometimes well-meaning folks see the big stompy tantrum threatening to hurt people in an empty effort to scare them into stopping, and don’t realize it’s just a scare tactic, and amplify hysterics and fearmongering on behalf of the tantrum-havers, not realizing that’s who they’re helping.

in the case of the anti-musk demos, though, it seems that those who’d be inclined to adopt anxious histrionics are instead adopting a flippantly defiant posture — led by folks with deeper roots, but much of it built around more superficial memery and mockery.

this is simultaneously really cool to see, people tapping into that collective vibe, and also very tenuous: there are and will continue to be appeals toward deepening the praxis behind the demos, acting with mindfulness, digging in. reactionary types don’t take kindly to appeals to depth.

these demos are dominated by existing well-oiled volunteer-run groups, so attempts to co-opt them are preemptively neutralized. but we’ll see pops of people annoyed at being critiqued for, say, carrying a queerphobic sign; out-of-pocket scolds from those needing most to grow.
