The things that caused the depression during Hoover were caused mostly by Coolidge. Only reason it keeps getting blamed on Hoover is because FDR always called it "The Hoover Depression" or "Hoover's Depression". It was never about Coolidge or anyone.
It is, but he also deserves plenty of blame. He knew a lot of the potential remedies but was too proud to implement them. He didn't necessarily make the mess, but couldn't clean it up
That I do not deny. And I say that as an FDR New Deal lover. But it's insane how many people call him the worst president in American history, which is far from true when pigs like Fillmore and Pierce exist.
The only thing Hoover struggled with really was trying to get us out of it. But in a reminder of modern day politics, FDR ran the term into the ground.
