Let's hope Assad goes down this time. But ideally Islamist extremists don't just replace him, and a moderate, secular Kurdish state emerges.

Maybe we'll get a domino effect once the Assad regime falls: the Islamist theocrats of Iran, the Putin gang in Russia, and the Kim regime in North Korea.

The protests started against Assad because his regime had a habit of disappearing and torturing people. The protests were peaceful for a long time and he cracked down even harder including gassing and machine gunning people, that started the conflict. He's an authoritarian cunt.

Also note it was Assad giving Al Qaeda in Iraq safe haven in his country when they were at war with the US. He used them to control dissidents, those same people became ISIS and he funded them via buying their oil. He's not the good guy.

Never understood how much of the Muslim world defends Russia after it has killed millions of muslims from Afghanistan, both Chechen Wars, to Syria and onwards.

It’s probably because the mainstream media and most sources ignore all that.
