23andMe is not subject to HIPAA regulations. With the company's bankruptcy and possible sale, your personal information could be exposed to bad actors.

In this day and age of identity theft and exploitation of personal information, I cannot fathom why anyone would submit their DNA to a private company, as it opens the door for impersonating someone on a molecular level. There’d be no recourse to fight it, because you and the fake are identical.
