I just want to remind people in the comments that two things can be true. It can be true that it was wrong to use a name without consent, but it can also be true that an economic boycott and mass strike are our greatest tools for change.

I mean sure. If anyone had any idea what the name MEANT. I hear ppl vaguely toss it around like it's supposed to do something but no one knows anything about it so I'd say it's piss poor planning of ppl thought a movement would happen.
I totally agree. It may have been a misunderstanding. Regardless I agree totally that economic sanctions r the most effective thing we can use to make our point.
for one day? and that will achieve what exactly? Amazon will tell Trump to stop breaking the law? Washington Post will start writing truthful articles about him? The Supreme Court will suddenly say he shouldn’t be doing what he’s doing? because these billionaires had one bad day in business?
It’s only a beginning. U start somewhere. Organizers know and participants should that this first step won’t change stuff. The next phase has been announced and it’s for longer. It’s being phased in. What do u suggest be done instead?
Or, a long-term boycott. One day isn't going to do anything to these corporations and I can't see them announcing that they lost X millions because they're supporting a bad guy, can you?
Totally agree. My initial response to her asking “why” was not about her not wanting her name used without her permission, which people shouldn’t do, it’s why it appears she doesn’t believe in the action.
How has she been disrespected? When we post on social media, we are opening ourselves up for responses. That’s a major part of social media. It’s a two way street by design.
I read absolutely nothing in her response that indicated that she does not believe in the proposed action. But even if she didn’t, could she be blamed for not having faith in a boycott promoted on a lie? They’ve already demonstrated that the organizers lack ethics.
See the original post written by Heather Cox Richardson— a noted historian and author. They are promoting the boycott using her name. She wants them to stop and is letting everyone know that she has no affiliation with them whatsoever. Any other labor I can perform for you?
I agree with this. All it takes is one scandal to taint an organization that otherwise has a good calling and goals. Every mistake is a point of attack from the right. We need to be extra careful.
Good point! Quick question though, how in the hell do we get people who will actually stick to anything worth sticking to? I can’t even get my co-workers to agree on lunch choices and that’s easy peasy lemon squeezy stuff.
That’s the question, isn’t it? And the answer depends on the kind of person they are. For a lot of people, you make it cool, make it socially exceptional. Still others will need to suffer some more, unfortunately. They need to be affected directly. It’s a combination of those things.
People need to feel the pain, they need to see direct, unavoidable harm in their lives for what the oligarchs are doing. They need to then be presented with the solution in a way that makes them feel cool, accepted, and even special.
Bingo. I've been screaming this from the top of my lungs: STOP BUYING FROM THE CRIMINAL OLIGARCHY. Hold back your spending power. Buy from small businesses only and buy only what you need. It's the ONLY Way to peacefully protest. Hold back your spending power!
Of course two things can be true. I believe that Trump needs to be removed from the Presidency as soon as possible, and also believe that it's not acceptable if someone assassinates him.
Saying ONE true thing does not excuse saying ANOTHER that is not!
Tesla paid exactly ZERO in federal income taxes the last 4 years on 11 billion in income over the last 3 years.
Costco paid 2.195 million and an effective tax rate of 24.6% in 2024. The refuse to discard their DEI policies.
I’ll be shopping at Costco on February 28th.

We are fighting against a president who uses any means he can to get what HE wants, and he feels fully justified in doing so.
