This underpins everything else. Progressives understand that people do bad things because of systems, because of flawed hierarchies and power structures that we could change. But to conservatives, it isn’t the system that is bad, they believe that some people are just evil. It’s simple; good or bad.

And this is why conservatives will always try to uphold the legacy systems that benefit them, using that fact to reinforce the idea that other people, whom it does not benefit, are simply inherently bad people. But you might say, “They’re making a hell of a lot of changes to the system right now.”

But in reality, they are merely returning the system to an older time, a legacy form that further benefits them. For them, every problem that harms racial minorities, the disabled, and other marginalized people is actually evidence of a moral failing. This is also why they fall for conspiracies.

Remember, for them the world is simple, light and dark, good and bad. Complexity is a sign of deceit and fraud. Climate science isn’t actually complicated and nuanced. They are inherently good people, so they would understand it. Therefor, it must be a conspiracy, a scam.

They are not like us.
