9/11 proved this true.
American flags everywhere but sacrifice nowhere to be found except by service members.
We could never ration or save like Americans did during WW2.

Absolutely, that's not even remotely debatable at this point. Back in college, I had an econ prof who once said in passing that a reason why the US is ill-equipped for global conflict is because it's been repeatedly demonstrated that US consumers have zero tolerance for economic sacrifice.
