Never played the TTRPG (or any, for that matter), but when I was a kid a friend of my brother had the sourcebooks, which I pored over at length. So many cool ships and droids that never got beyond those pages.
Yeah loath to admit nowadays but when I was a kid I was one of those Star Wars fans that liked the "lore" over any specific story. Those rpg sourcebooks were great for that.

The star trek memory alpha wiki splitting all those background lore / paperback novel fanboys off into the memory beta wiki was a smart move that others should adopt
Agreed. I don't even necessarily hate "lore" as a general concept but a lavish devotion to it constrains storytellers more than it helps them in my experience
Half of Fritz Leiber's adventure stories would have been super constrained if he cared that much about "lore" for instance
This is so interesting. It really is amazing to think back to a period when Star Wars movies were thought to be a thing of the past. What a gift that the coals were tended to.
