By my estimate, RFK and its parking lots take up nearly 2 SQUARE MILES of land, (out of 61 total in DC).
It's already a huge waste of space; to keep it like this for another generation just so 8 days a year it can host home team football games would lock in that waste for another generation

Ultimately Bowser and co will show us their proposed plans and we'll see how much surface parking they think they need. It may be less than there is now but it will still be way too much and a huge waste
The Commanders' attendance last year averaged 63,000 people per game. For comparison, that's just about double the average attendance for Nats park in their HIGHEST turnout year
In 2014, Metro took about 11,000 people to a Nationals game, on average (https://planitmetro.com/2014/12/22/metrorail-brought-one-third-of-fans-to-nationals-park-in-2014/).
Metro works well for Nats games but it's super crowded and I think you'd agree that's about the maximum it could possibly handle.
