I was just doing some research and re-watched parts of the debates between Clinton/Trump and Harris/Trump. They both cleaned his clock so badly it's still shocking to me that anyone could have voted for him after that.

The Harris debate was irrelevant because once again, the country didn't feel that things were going great (part of that was a failure of messaging on Biden's part) so this time, they were in the mood to burn down the establishment. The menage á Cheney strategy
And, oh yeah, Richard Nixon.
So, debates aren't completely irrelevant, IMO. They are an opportunity for someone to look really bad.
This might be a semi-good thing: instructive to see how someone reacts when under pressure.
- how great the economy was compared to other countries
- the record low unemployment rate
- how Trump pushed up the deficit
- that corporate greed was the root cause of inflation
- Or that she would SHUT THE BORDER
This is what the undecided wanted to hear.
