Definitely getting a heat pump next time, but to be the doom monger here, if he's only saving £267 a year compared with the highest ever prices (mine's gone down nearly that, just because I swapped tariffs), it's going to take 20+ years to break even.

That’s why if, like me, you want to be more “eco” but don’t have a bag of cash lying around you take the opportunity to change to a heat pump when your gas boiler dies. No one asks the question ‘how long will it take to pay back?’ when you need a new car to replace your car that no longer works.

That's not great economics really.
The other thing for me, we have solar heating which works in tandem with our gas boiler. I doubt that'll work with a heat pump.

I had a heat pump installed in September this year and the difference over last year is incredible in cost and in warmth. I had been putting it off for ages but I would absolutely recommend one.

I'm saving that nigh on every month due to better management of power usage and tariff switching.
My bills also include EV charging in them (I'm not on an EV tariff right now as I can only use Octopus Go which isn't fixed and too short on the low rate period)

Now Octopus should really focus on getting those MCS compliant installations in the areas where there is not enough room to pass the noise assessment. A simple, well designed cover would make the installation feasible in most terraced houses without the need for planning permission.

I am not sure if in the UK everyone would agree to fork money out for such project. Things like that work in areas with strong community bond like in Scandinavian, but pushing an agenda like that in the UK would be rather challenging.

Energy suppliers like @octopus.energy are jointly building whole energy efficient estates and I'm sure that a local community ground source #heatpump network in suitable streets wouldn't be beyond their capabilities. 🌞

The problem occurs when you will have retrofit it in the existing locations.
There should be a national program which educates people on the benefits of heat pumps and green energy. Very often the lack of knowledge is the obstacle in rolling out such programs!

Just an FYI you miscopied this from the Express presumably, it's 'dispels' not 'dispells'.

The original article uses 'dispelling' which is also correct due to the crazy spelling rules of English. Or at least the online version is currently right.
