For people in Washington State and Oregon, check out the NVS Tsunami Evac app. This not only pushes tsunami alerts to your phone, it links you to your local evacuation maps!
Local alerts are vital as well so you get location-specific information. Sign up for local alerts through your city, county, tribe, etc. Find local alerts for Washington State here: https://mil.wa.gov/alerts
Buy yourself a NOAA weather radio. This handy little radio will alert you to all sorts of hazards in your area, and acts like a smoke alarm in that it'll be silent until it needs to wake up up - and then it'll be real loud!
Don't forget to follow your local emergency management on social media. They'll be posting relevant information, protective action messaging, etc. For Washington, check out @waemd.bsky.social!
This is very cool technology. Do you have a recommendation for a reputable brand I could get that has the "smoke detector" functionality you described?
