🧵Mark Zuckerberg’s cravenly cynical decision to get rid of fact checking on Facebook, Instagram and Threads is reminiscent of the opening scene of The Godfather, where various local businessmen come to show their fealty to the mafia boss. 1/15

Zuckerberg, Musk, Pichai, Cook, Bezos, Altman, Nadella etc only care about $ and deregulating themselves so they can continue to abuse their power, collect data, sell ads and maximise profits. They are disgusting individuals who are on the wrong side of history, and people need to rise up & RESIST.
As just one example, cited in the podcast, a complete clampdown on anyone attempting to even question the narratives around possible harm from the experimental mRNA ‘vaccines’… to me, that’s pretty close to fascism rather than ‘regulation’. But listen to the podcast. It’s a real eye opener
Have a listen, Bill. Re the inverted commas, in that these medical interventions didn’t seem to have had the effect that its champions proclaimed - though they did bring in a whole range of issues that many people didn’t anticipate.
“They wanted us to take down this meme of Leonardo DiCaprio talking about class action lawsuits for vaccines 10 years from now,” Zuckerberg said. “We said, no, we’re not going to take down humour and satire. We’re not going to take down true things.”
He explains in great detail the complexities of fact checking and ‘regulation’ … I may be coming across as a Zuckerberg apologist, which I’m not. I’ve been hugely critical. But fairness is important here and hearing him out. The Rogan podcast offers a chance to do that without knee-jerk reaction
Funny you say that, because the photo of him in the Guardian article looks just like Michael Corleone as he is closing the door in the final scene after lying to Faye. It struck me at the time.
I just heard that Zuckerberg does really filthy things with chickens, ky jelly and parsnips.
Unfortunately I now can't fact check this so I'm just going to assume it's true.

These are troubling times. Commentators criticised the Democrats in the US for arguing during the recent election that Trump represented a threat to democracy. Look, they say, the election went smoothly. But democracy isn’t just about voting. 2/15
It evolved to counter the idea that might is right, that the strong should rule over the weak. Democracy empowered those who were not physically or financially powerful, instigating rights that protected women, people of colour, the disabled, outsiders and the poor from abuse by powerful men. 3/15
Now those powerful men are pushing back against the idea of universal rights and responsibilities, in the guise of victimhood. Zuckerberg’s argument that fact checking is politically biased in favour of progressives is spurious. 4/15
Science, the peer-reviewed academic journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, published research this past June which revealed that most misinformation on Facebook exists among users with conservative views, a phenomena which has no equivalent on the liberal side. 5./15
Thank you Billy for using scientific evidence! Here's a more recent article showing that misinfo was skewed, and response to it was thus likely/appropriately not:
The bias that Zuckerberg is citing - if it can be called such - is in favour of facts. Conservatives get more more flags because they post more misinformation than liberals. 6/15
Rather than seeking to counter this fake news with greater veracity, Zuckerberg has declared open season on immigrants and the transgender community because he apparently believes that protecting them from abuse is “out of touch with mainstream discourse”. 7/15
