Part of the challenge is that the anti-semitisim lies not in the word, but in the tone of the speaker and how the word is used. Criticism of the Zionist position is warranted, but extremely often, "Zionist" is deployed as if it's a type of person, barely different from tossing around "Jew."

The project is done, a Jewish ethnostate exists! That nature isn't changing anytime soon. So why relitigate Zionism, a movement that to many Jews is amorphous and holds lots of different perspectives, instead of just criticizing the state's actions/policies, and their supporters, directly.

Ofc from a speech perspective there's way more to wrestle with when it comes to Jewish advocacy efforts around the term "Zionist" at colleges and such, and how groups can maintain identities, say, a left leaning group excluding Zionists, and that de facto excluding many Jews, so seen as antisemitism

You could simply say that the non-government asshole is endorsing genocide by supporting Israel's war on Gaza. You don't have to add a label such as Zionist, a group that includes people that oppose Israel's right-wing govt, but believe Israel has a right to exist.
