It appeared to belong to the ganoderma genus like reishi, but I didn't actually sample any this go round. I adore the deep maroon coloring.

Reishi? If so that’s good timing. Dry those out and boil them down for some very effective cedar allergy relief that starts showing up the end of January.

It certainly looks like a ganoderma of some sort! I've harvested reishi before, but did not stick around long enough on this trail during this bit of foraging to verify it as such.
