Zuck truly doesn't get social media is my take. All those UniLad posts on fb back in the day. He really thinks the value is in surfacing the most viral content. My threads feed is full of people I don't know.

It was always a clone of twitter, without its organic community

People were either cross-posting to it *FROM* Twitter, or the organic community of parents and grandparents on Facebook, which is not enough for cultural impact.

It's just a place to add Social Presence now; the moment is gone

Good to know. I also felt this way but didn't trust my own opinion because I also ignore instagram - and threads piggy backs off it (which I think is the reason for the high user count but no unique identity or community)

It was so promising. They had huge advantages working for them. But the leadership of Meta made so many bad faith decisions. They just wanted a US-centric rage machine they could sell ads into. Glad it now has zero cultural relevance globally.
