I was never good at it but I never stopped because going through the process, even though it hurts sometimes, feels right and real to me. The imperfections are the point. It's one reason why AI "art" all looks the same. It's why it's slop. It's a mathematical average smear sucked out of real art

when you first start to make art you are just gripped to use whatever is around you to do it. I remember not understanding that there were other kinds of software than windows 3.1 Paintbrush and wondering how all the graphics for Doom looked so good when you just had that as a tool

But that ignorance fuelled my tenacity and flexibility. I didn't know any better than to just work with what I had. And when I learned about other ways to do things I shifted and my art changed. This process never ends and it's why art is such a beautiful, human thing

That first pic is not actually Thom but another minor character from his story at that point, but yeah, he was in a medieval fantasy setting for a long time when I was doing a lot of RP on IRC servers 😵‍💫

Honestly, these aren't even bad, especially not for mouse drawn art. :V

But yeah for real though, i also started out using mouse and keyboard (with my off hand because i'm a cross-dominant mouse user apparently), i fully understand what that's like. It sucks, but it ain't an excuse!

Hell there's even art forms like pixel art where a mouse has some advantages over a stylus, that's where i started. Anyone passionate about making art will find a way to make art; it's not like Onfim from the 13th century had any of these and he still scribbled on birch bark.
