A big problem is where they winter. With climate change, they have been getting hit with thunderstorms (hail stones) destroy thousands/ Tens of thousands.
I don't remember where I saw that.

I remember learning in kindergarten about how their huge migrations would make trees orange with butterflies. I'm struggling for words at how quietly we're letting them slip away.

Would it be possible to at least like I don't know

repurpose a football dome into something tangibly useful by replacing the bleachers with trees or something

and just letting them live inside there so they're at least alive and effectively mothballed for the greater biosphere

One of the main problems is that we don't like milkweed in our lawns and on the sides of roads. They and other native plants get mowed down and replaced with grass, and then monarch butterflies have nothing to lay their eggs on. I don't even have a yard, but if I did, I'd purposely grow milkweed.

I have planted milkweed and other plants for butterflies and bees. Last year is my 3rd year here. It is the least number of 🦋s and 🐝s I've had with the most plants for them.
