I personally struggle with reading books because I work a tech support job where 99% of the job is reading tons of chats and emails and after a work day of reading it's hard to switch over to more reading. Also my ADHD doesn't help, although I am going back to reading stuff during the winter break

I struggle with all of this, but I'd still never say "I don't read books" as if that's a personal taste I hold. Like I want to read more books. Bragging about how you don't read books is strange to me, since I value reading. Even an audio book counts imo

Audiobooks rock, it's like a podcast but good (saying this as a podcaster). Although I much prefer reading myself so I am not limited by the audiobook's narrator and how they choose to portray the characters. But audiobooks are awesome.

Yeah and I still think they're as good as reading the book bc it's not adaptation, it's verbatim. And while audio books are similar to radio dramas, it's distinct enough that it's still definitely the book, and not a radio drama adaptation

So I understand why someone would say "I don't read books" in that particular situation, but I don't think it's something to brag about, it's like bragging about being unable to sit more for than 5 minutes or having a hernia

Yeah thats my conclusion too. I struggle with having the attention span to read. But it's a thing I consider a flaw about myself. I think reading a book is generally desirable.

I personally find it easier to read books with a dedicated distraction-free e-reader or a physical book with some ambient music. Turns out, Stanislaw Lem's Solaris pairs super well with Substrata by Biosphere. Halfway through the book but I expect to finish it in a couple of sittings before new year
