This isn’t even true as an empirical matter but the position of the people running the country and their fellow travelers are that if you are not white you shouldn’t be here https://bsky.app/profile/esqueer.net/post/3lsh4r7wngk2s

This would've been a daily stormer thread a decade ago. Neo-nazi conspiracy theories are mainstream now.

its absolutely not true to say the 1900s immigrants were welcome with open arms cuz they were "white" they were hated as others too
People look at the Nazis and say 'oh they hated the Jews' - but a lot of other groups went to the camps; and given enough time they'd have got around to which Italians were ok and which weren't, and so on. The purity tests would just have got harder and harder.
Their surname was Morrissey. Trust me, when it comes to putting the "Mass" in "Mass Migration" it's hard to beat Irish Catholics.
So Cuomo is also part of their problem. There’s just been 100+ years of assimilation.
Those who argue that Irish and Italians weren't considered white are essentially arguing that assimilation is "easy" because those populations eventually did so. That is a racially oppressive stance to take in that it undermines the ways other communities of color have been overtly excluded.
