True, but more difficult in Australia because of (a) all adults vote (b) preferential voting. The Murdoch press tried hard in all recent state and federal elections to install Trump-Lite and failed miserably in every case. Musk is a bigger problem though.

Can. gov tried some strategies but I can't say it's going great. There's a program to prop up legacy newspapers & we tried to get Meta & Google to pay into a subsidy to offset destruction of news media's business model. Arguably it was ill-conceived. Meta refused to pay & just banned news instead.

Rupert Murdoch married Elena Zhukova last year. When you read about her background it’s not hard to see her as an active agent who is taking care of the asset.
