Ok i feel insane for asking this but- any other black folk here ever been told you "sound white" and has that ever like made you feel a certain way? 😭
Because it makes me feel insane as if in any less "black" than i am simply for the way i speak. Like, i get most my mannerisms from my mom.

It'll be up to all of us dealing w it to find community because there is nothing wrong with it, the issue is what you said! Being put in boxes!
Especially sucks when it's your own family telling you that, like....damn okay sorry I guess
Personally i take more from my mom in terms of speaking and mannerisms (and ppl said same shit to her). Ive had strangers say it or like black classmates point it out 😭 it makes me feel crazy and alienated like "damn am i still black??"
