Every writer has more ideas rattling around their head than they have time to properly write. This is a great chance to hold those ideas up to the light, build on them a little, then mark the day off as accomplished.

You'll know more about that shiny possibility afterward than you do now!

The first book I ever published started with a vague idea that I didn't know what to do with. Then I jotted down half a thought on one day of this writerly challenge, then the next day I wrote a followup idea. And the day after that. And several months later, I wrote a rough draft in November.

I wouldn't have ever written that full book if I hadn't played around with the ideas first!

And I've repeated that process since. I'm a big fan of writing fun things with low stakes, since that makes it easy (and fun), and you end up writing more than you expected (while having fun).

Write a bunch of nonsense that doesn't have to be good! Worse case: you've written a bunch of stuff, and know more about what you DON'T want to write next. That's still practice, and still worthwhile. Best case, the nonsense is surprisingly good!

Personally, I like to write fantasy and sci-fi. This February I might write some little drabbles about centaurs arguing over which human food is the grossest, or what to call a mermaid detective (can't be a gumshoe without shoes), or house robots learning to ski. The possibilities are endless.
