Sweet.
Kind of sounds petty I know but if you lose faith in a person’s basic judgement you have to move on right?
This is not firing a person because they’re a Red Sox fan and not a Yankees fan, or thought Bird was more impactful than Magic…or even a pro choice vs pro life kinda thing.
It’s more.
It's not just that. It is knowing they hate you, they support destroying people with lies, they support violence. Fire them & make clear it is cuz you can't trust them not to be violent towards you & not to lie about you destructively. We get to protect ourselves by distancing ourselves from them.
What can they do then as a disempowered body? Yes they could be louder. But they have no power. It will amount to nothing. And you justify it to me each time you fail to offer a functional alternative. Do you have a better solution? Happy to go with it if you have. But it must be effective.
I don't give money to any place that is religious without having a reason. MAGA counts. For instance, if you're a Christian bookstore and I need to go in there and buy something, it's fine. If you are an auto repair shop, I don't want to see anything about Christianity.
I am choosey too.
I don’t hold different points of views against people or businesses.
But that’s not exclusive.
When someone’s view radically clashes with my own on things like Ukraine or Putin or little things like insurrections and Nazi salutes…. Then I’m gone. That’s a dead-ender.
Exactly. I'm really fine with small businesses keeping quiet about religion and politics. If you plaster it all over your business, I can only assume that you're trying to distract me from your incompetence. And it seems to be exclusively rabid Christians and MAGAts doing this IME.
Treat me like a relatively competent human and don't plaster your business with MAGA or religious shit and we are fine. If I walk in and say hey there's a screw in my tire, please patch it, don't tell me I need four new tires and Jesus. It's pretty simple.
P.S. And if I like your politics but not your services I won't be there again. But in my experience, most of the places that are explicitly religious or MAGA without a reason are also incompetent.
This is not petty.
If you believe children should starve. Hospitals be defunded. Illegal immigrants deserve the death penalty. That only a certain group of people should have a voice. Then we cannot be friends, we will never do business, I don't want you in our communities.
I live in a remote area.
I wish I could protest publicly like the noble people I see protesting.
But I have turbocharged my selectivity in business people I do business with.
I do much business.
Not petty at all, they are most likely supporting the people that are trying to take peoples life’s away. You definitely do not want to contribute to that!
I agree and I’m not supporting anything or anybody MAGA.
You live in Missouri.
Your senator is Josh Hawley.
He’s a slimy little worm.
Sorry for that, over 60 pretty you.
Spot on! That company to me now represents hate, racism, discrimination, unethical & immoral behavior… and I just feel comfortable giving people like that 1 cent of my earnings.
MAGA = Fascism. So it’s not petty to send a message by not using their services. But tell them why. ‘I don’t support anything to do with fascism. I owe it to our fallen who protected us from this in WW2’
We don’t wear swastikas/MAGA hats or employ people that do.
I actually did give the Fidelity Branch manager a reason.
I told him that if I lost confidence in my rep because of his political judgements, then i couldn’t trust them with my money. Simply said.
Yes agree.
I live in a very remote area.
I wish I could protest in public.
But I’m protesting through my business relationships and wallet. And I’m making my reasons crystal clear.
And I do much business.
I did have that conversation with them… it didn’t go very well. The owner instead of just canceling my contract, instead wasted my time trying to change my point of view to match his.
Ultimately it got canceled and I went with an old Air Force buddy of mine.
Nice. Dealing with family and friends politically is a sticky wicket. I try to keep things relative and factual.
Try I said. But it usually goes off the rails quickly.
Then I bite my tongue and wish I was more diplomatic.
But increasingly I’m in this who gives a shit mindset.
They call today the “information age”.
I’m not sure.
Was that named with tongue in cheek?
I’ve never seen so much minutiae floating around in the yonder’s.
I'm not sure it might have been. It's subtitle is "notes on the state of America" if that helps.
I believe the problem with the information age as we haven't taught our population how to engage with that information. Nor how to recognize disinformation.
Yes agree. But what is most disturbing to me is the US Senate. They know better.
They are paralyzed by fear.
Noble people do the right thing despite the pushback.
Republican Senators are complicit while knowing better.
I hear you Matt.
The strains it has all created in my sphere is probably unrepairable. Disagreement has manifested into deep wounds.
Not sure what will right the ship.
My sense is that personal development, if pursued, produces understanding. Understanding is the basis for wisdom. There are no shortcuts, but many possible impediments. It’s a slow process in people under ideal circumstances. How do we support this process is the real question IMO.🤷🏻♂️
I agree. Unfortunately I don’t have the talent to bypass idiocy on monumental issues in the way I probably should.
I’m good with disagreeing on a mundane matter and moving
on. But regarding the political issues of this day…. I can’t hold back. I wish I could.
Saw a van for a company that has a tire changing service. It had a HUGE picture of Trump screened on the side & it said, “Make tires great again!” I felt sick. Members of my family served in WWII, Korea & Viet Nam & would never have thought that a fascist would be sitting
in the White House. 😔
I am a US Navy veteran.
All this makes me nauseous.
I went to bed last night for whatever reason thinking positively ‘we’ll be stronger for it all, darkest before dawn..’
I woke up this morning and my first thought was we’re fucked’.
I go back-and-forth and back-and-forth between negative and positive thoughts and emotions. I find myself dipping my toe in positivity, but unfortunately, my whole foot is drenched in negativity.
Same feeling.
I never liked roller coasters as a kid as oddly as that sounds.
I hate this political roller coaster worse. Both make me puke.
This puke though hurts worse.

You put it nicely.
It’s been hard turning my back on MAGA people I know, but I have no other options.
Keep trying to justify that to yourself. I sure am glad to not know you. Your friends have already moved on.
I don’t hold different points of views against people or businesses.

So if you advertise some kind of political or religious bent I dislike without it being integral to the business, I will not give you money.

STL, KC and the Tiger college town all on I-70. The rest of the state is red.
Similar to many states I suppose.
I am 100% pro-choice and believe the woman is 100% the decision maker.
And I agree that it’s “part and parcel of this movement”.
But I do have a slight bit of empathy to those who view abortion differently.
I have zero tolerance for Trump and MAGA and their objectives.
But I’d like to offer an alternate pov re: edit button.
Here on #bsky it’s important to ack we are all human and can be wrong. Ok with being big wrong and little wrong.
A lot of ppl want one. I get it.

I have crazy stories from being a GC from 2018-2022 from my Roofing peers - who were like 90% MAGA and racist.
Now consumers are paying attention.
Agree Prime, it all makes little sense.

MAGA doesn't make bad or stupid people... Bad or stupid people use MAGA to justify their shittiness AND stupidity.
