I work for a Wiley journal; Wiley have just made them mandatory for our authors, without consulting us. I don’t think it’s going to go down well with authors at all.

I have an ORCID, I like my ORCID, and I use my ORCID. But I agree with Simon: this view is not widely shared in our discipline where it is seen as a coercive tool of surveillance and oppressive research assessment.
I actively recommend colleagues to get one. Those who didn't have one had never heard of it. So far no one has opposed to doing it and over the years it's clear it's been beneficial.
Wow - that's interesting? Bc it's a new thing? It's seen as an extra admin task? This is my issue - if authors aren't acculturated, it bcs another annoying thing they have to do and doesn't serve its purpose bc its not maintained.
It’s a brand-new requirement, so we’ll see how it goes. But I don’t recall authors ever volunteering them before. (Shld have said it’s a hums journal)
Wiley certainly try to make the case that it’s a good thing, maybe that’ll help.
Interesting to hear you say some just do a new one each time!
