So yes you are right partly, but the term “prehistoric” does not specify that something from those eras couldnt exist today. We do know there some lants and wildlife that still exist as its similar form without evolving to this day from millions of years ago. A hypothesis i would make, would be…
…that the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro hasnt changed drastically enough fir millions of years, that this trees needed to evolve or adapt to a different environment. This would give as a look at a specimen that hasnt changed much and compare it to relative members of the genome to study the transitions
Living things become less bizarre to us simply through familiarity. Trees are 'bizarre'; flowers are 'bizarre'; and don't get me started on insects and fish...
So bizarre and unfamiliar, can't even mention the country it's in, because this giant diverse landmass with 54 whole countries is still just the Dark Continent to whites apparently
They're very similar to the frailejones of the South American páramo! Fascinating. Wonder if they are related dating back to Pangea, or just independently evolved to look similar.
Wow, that's some significant plant life. It reminds me of what you might find in the Silurian, but the animals would have been a tiny millipede creature, rather than human beings. The first 'plant life', creatures that ate the Sun in the presence of oxygen, made the earth freeze, swallowed all CO2.
Yes they’re amazing plants, but they grow at around 4000m: well below the summit. One fun thing about the mountain is the variety of climate zones you pass on the ascent.

Seems like a low bar, but who was making measurements of this species 5-6k years to prove they haven’t changed any?
I'm definitely not an archeologist or a botanist. I was just talking about semantics.

Also, are these posts created by image-prompt AI? Sloppy inaccuracies in the captions often. The photo is real but the AI(?) caption is off.
They are not actually on top of the mountain.
They’re at about 12,000 feet. The mountain is 19,000.
Like trees/plants from another world 😀
how do they rot
I hate myself.
They look really cool. Thanks for posting it.
