Lately I think a lot about Kalonymus ben Kalonymus, a 13th century Provençal Jewish transgender scholar and poet. She wrote about her longing to be a woman and live a woman's life. She lived in a time and culture where being trans was impossible, but she still dared to dream.

I've been doing a lot of reading about cooking and food in Europe in the past for uni, and specifically the gender roles involved. As restrictive as they were, they also seem to bring real meaning & connection. I'd imagine especially for trans people who were able to switch roles.
