Granted, it works if you go to the setup page and then click Kubuntu, which takes you to the same URL. Might just be something on my end though. Weird.

We've been having great success with Fedora 41! Between Steam and Lutris, almost everything installed easily and works great. Of course Arch is a great choice too, thanks to Steam's support. And soon we maybe seeing SteamOS coming to more hardware if the rumours are to be believed.

Personally I recommend Kubuntu for work systems and EndeavourOS for gaming (latest stable kernel + mesa, etc) as Arch based systems work (or work better) with the latest hardware.

IMO the Fedora atomic desktops (Bazzite for gaming specifically) are better for that than EndeavorOS/Arch since they are less prone to updates breaking things but still very up to date.

I haven't had anything break in over 2 years on running EndeavourOS personally (I had to do a manual command to sort our pacman related issues a couple of times...)
I've run most major distros in the last 22 years of running Linux, never got on with Fedora but will check out Bazzite ..

I'm curious why you didn't go for Bazzite, especially if you rely on Flatpak.

I run Bazzite on my gaming PC no problem. I use Flatpaks for most things but you can still install software using rpm-ostree or by using integrated VMs they have in the distro.

Plus KDE is more up to date than Kubuntu.

The really cool thing about Bazzite is it gives you the advantages of an immutable system (hard to break anything) without locking you into it.

If you override it and make a system change, it actually makes a commit with a unique GRUB entry so you can roll back to before you messed up super easy.

Upgraded my GPU from a vega64 to a second hand rtx3070 so I went with pop_is cause I couldn't be bothered with the nvidia driver shebang. So far, so good. But if you really dig into it : any distro will be great at gaming. It comes down to how much the user wants to get hands on.

I'm actually pretty close to this using Tuxedo. It's very much like Pop_OS! in that it's still based on Debian/Ubuntu but with tweaks to keep it more up to date, along with changes that more align with what their customers want instead of what Canonical thinks is best.

I tried Nobara for like a year, but IMO they're too small to do effective stability testing. I switched away when one of their errant updates wiped out my entire Desktop Env. w/ no way to recover.
That's a nice thing about Pop or Tuxedo, they have paying customers they have to test and support for.

I'd still be on Pop except I found I preferred KDE. I will probably put it on my laptop once they have the final version of their custom DE, though.

I'm not sure about the inclusion of Flatpaks if we are aiming for the smoothest experience. They present a level of micromanagement that you'd need Flatseal to handle. Like Firefox only accesses ~/Downloads which is usually fine until I need to open a pdf somewhere else.

Kubuntu is amazing. I was using it for my daily before I switched to endeavourOS. It’s Like Kubuntu plus 😆. KDE plasma 6 arch Linux with all the goodies baked in at the start. Being able to just click a button during install and getting almost everything you need pre installed is nice.

I wish I had a better understanding of how nVidia driver updates (or maybe update approvals?) work on Kubuntu/Ubuntu. I see updates come through Discover regularly, but the driver version never changes. And it remains well behind the latest version...which is an issue with Dragon Age Veilguard 😅.
