I mean, Steam Deck is nearly 3 years old at this point. So ehh...
That being said, how much of a power move would it be if Steam Deck 2 had a form factor that made it compatible w/ the Switch 2 docking station? 🤣

Given how the Switch 1's dock infamously used non standard mechanisms for display out. Often bricking Switches if you tried using standard hubs with HDMI... it's unlikely. Valve seems to prefer the use of industry standard hardware (or some form of forward compatablity with Deck 1 accessories)

Did Valve ever say, on what kind of cycle they were thinking of updating the deck? I remember them mentioning that it won't be often (as opposed to many other PC handhelds), but I also very much doubt it would be as long as a full console generation (every 8 years). So maybe a new one in 1-2 years?

IIRC, they wanted "significant advancement in graphics". Only they know what this means. Could be the same pace as the Switch, could be if multi-frame gen matures, could be with AMD's AI chips, I don't think we know.

Also 3rd party SteamOS devices prob relieves some pressure on Valve for Deck 2.

I‘m not sure if there will ever be a sd2. As soon as Steam OS is available for other manufacturers Valve needs no own hardware. Valve earns little to no money selling hardware. they earn money selling games.

I agree that Valve doesn't NEED SD2. But, did they really NEED SD1? Some devs saw a chance and took it. With the rumored/leaked Steam Controller 2 and VR headset, I'd think the projects aren't a huge money sink & support their devs & engineers to pursue opportunities

Only once they believe there is a significant enough of a breakthrough or the games people most play on a deck (primarily indie or older AAA) become increasingly hard to run.

They seem to be more focused growing the third party market woth SteamOS for now.

Games are incredibly expensive even years after they got out, they have a hell of a problem to make ok games and use their money to... sue everyone.

It seems that this week top seller is broken, upcoming games like KCD2 and Civ VII don't appear at all in the 100, but the week before they were in the top 20, very strange. Also, if we look at the curent global topseller, Steam Deck and these two games are in the top 20, as you would expect.

Kind of weird this drop is only based on annoucement of a switch 2. Do you reckon it will go any further down once sales go live ? I could see a downward trend until the first realease and then steadilly go up as the novelty effect wears out.
