I don't think she uses Shitter, but my aunt has adopted a "wait and see" approach to the current regime. Then again, my whole entire extended family has long held a "don't discuss religion or politics" because it's impossible to be cordial with someone who openly hates your guts. Yes, close it off.

There’s still a big divide between people who follow the news and speak English vs the those who don’t, which makes it hard for creators to leave their audience behind. I was skeptic of this but have seen examples of people who try hard to be here but they still have to post there 🥴

I think if you are in our (yours and mine) internet bubble, bluesky is a better replacement, but for many others it is still tricky if your main source of income comes from "being online"

Right, but we're comparing an account that's only been posting since 2024 on Bluesky with one on X that's been going since 2009.

Well, I had more engagement here from the get go vs twitter where I had more followers and have been posting for longer. It is also very evident when you start watching any Spanish content creator that they don't even come across bluesky posts in their entire stream

The point is: if you don't make the move, and push people to follow you on better places - it's obviously not gonna happen. Dev also only lists X on their Steam page, not exactly helping eh.

Not just that but by leaving the other platform and coming here, anyone who had an actual interest in your content would find you here and boost this platform ever more, killing the audience potential elsewhere (in this case, X).

I think many people remain in a state of denial and act like a child who believes that if they closes their eyes, the bad things will disappear.

If you don't see fascism, it doesn't exist. It's just a story, fictional, it's not real. Everything goes on normal, everything remains the same...

I really hate it. I go to who say on twitter that they're streaming and say in chat "have bsky yet?" and often their response isn't even "what's that?" which would be forgivable. They instead shut me down and block me from chat and say something like "blue sky? get that leftist trash outta here"

Even more so when Elon's changes to Twitter have made it unusable, IMO, even if his poiltics weren't aligned with neo-nazis.

Leaving Twitter/X is such an easy choice to make.

a lot of it is herd mentality. so many people are still there and not here so they would rather stay there.

the problem with this is if everyone has that mentality it turns into a feedback loop of never leaving.

a little of it is some features on Twitter that are still not on other platforms

Yeah can vouch for the latter. Offered a code to an artist back during the invite code era, but they wouldn't have it since Bluesky doesn't do private accounts.

FWIW Bluesky wants to do it, but they've got a lot of other (protocol-related) stuff they need to do first, and they don't want to half-ass it like the Fediverse has, which has lead to people's private posts ending up accessible to people who shouldn't have access - both intentionally and not.
