If the offense subs, then the refs have to give time for the defense to sub.
South Carolina would sub late in the play clock on offense, and Bielema would then slow sub on defense so SC couldnt snap the ball and was forced to call timeout to avoid a delay of game. This happened a couple times.
Beamer was hot about it. Screaming about what Bielema was doing which is technically legal, but Beamer didn’t like it because one could tell Illinois was slow subbing and taking their time. In the video, Bielema looks at Beamer and gives him the symbol the refs use for when there is a sub.
Beamer was upset with how much time Illinois was being given to make the substitutions. The announcers showed a timed single instance of substitution where Illinois was given 20 seconds. That's far, far too long. And the taunt itself should have been penalized.
