For the past few years, I and my co-authors have been collecting spectral radiance values from Io's hundreds of volcanoes using JIRAM images taken between 2017 to the present (this paper covers up to October 2023). This paper gives us a chance to publish this table of 2305 hot spot detections.

In a pair of papers published last year, we looked at the distribution of thermal emission at 4.8 µm across Io, but in this paper we focus on individual volcanoes and on a few specific regions on Io to better understand their volcanic eruption styles using resolved images or their eruption history.

For example, we found that Zamama's apparent eruption style has shifted from a compound flow field (seen during the Galileo) to an active lava lake. This is based on the high 3.5/4.8 µm band ratios at this hot spot, mean a higher color temperature than what is typically seen at lava flows.

Prometheus, the site of one of Io's persistent volcanic plumes, is a flow field about 100 km in length. JIRAM data suggests that the flow field has changed shape, with the western distal end shifting eastward since it was last seen by Galileo and New Horizons.

In Bosphorus Regio, east of Prometheus, we found a set of volcanoes (Seth, P95, Sigurd, and P217) which erupted with a few months of each other in mid-2023. This suggests that there may be regional controls to volcanic emission (either regional scale magma chambers or seismic activity).

Paterae seem to express a variety of eruption styles from "lava flows in a hole in the ground" to quiescent lava lakes to very active lava lakes. Some have thermal emission ringing their margins, while others are more uniform, like Amaterasu Patera.
