Odd, it used to be the job of universities, community groups and journalists to give frank and fearless advice that challenges government until the grift… err… “lobbyists” stated these think tanks backed by billionaires and multinationals.

I understand that the Institute of Public Affairs (which receives $$ from Rinehart) gets a tax exemption for part or their operation. Had to divide themselves up but still get an exemption for "social research". We never see it! Does it actually happen? Not good enough. Should have to publish it!

Also jeopardised, arguably often more so, by private or foreign govt funding. The IPA and ASPI are two examples. Somehow we need to restore the ethic of honesty in public life: it’s now a very generic problem.

It's even worse when the think tanks rely on the funding from FOREIGN governments, when the problem is our ministers are directly being told what to do by those foreign governments.

Looking at you ASPI. (About 20% of funding from the governments of the US, UK and Japan.)
