Halfway through @gabedurham.bossfightbooks.com's book on Majora's Mask and I'm really interested in what it has to say about open and closed texts.
I'm noticing in my own work I've felt a lot of pressure for the "meaning" to obvious and upfront, otherwise it doesn't get played at all.

Specifically thinking about The Book Ritual, which is incredibly upfront about its themes of grief. The talking book is sad and preoccupied with losses, over the course of the story you find out why.
So maybe I'm not just unambitious. Maybe obviousness is a useful colour in the creative toolbox.
