The two types of air filters I am most familiar with are CR boxes (for PM mostly and some VOCs and SVOCs) and IQAir (iqair.com/us/air-purif...) which does both gases and particles in a pretty large space. The difference in cost is >10x. Better to use something than nothing. (1/2) - ThreadSky

We have IQAir and like it (it was exorbitant, but worth it due to grandkids). It has an ice timer feature that extends the life of the 3 filters.

It's price is ridiculously high (reason I hesitated to call it out)...but it has multiple stages of filtration for both gases and particles. Other HEPAs cost a ton and have low CADRs and added (costly) bells and whistles (like ionizers) that only make indoor air worse....so I avoid those...

It is ridiculously high!!! I wish manufacturers would provide life-saving consumer technology (like this) on a sliding scale or something to level the playing field.

If you build your own CR boxes (5 year olds can build them and they cost $70), you can use activated carbon (impregnated with potassium permanganate) to remove VOC's too....make it a 2 x 2 or 3 x 1 -- combo of MERV 13 and activated carbon (2/2).

Can you do this using, e.g., the Honeywell activated carbon replacement prefilters? And do you put them on the inside of the MERV 13 filters?

Have to be same size. 2 or 3 walls/filters MERV 13 and 1 or 2 carbon.
