I’ve been landing on insisting on referring to insurers and for-profit hospital chains as cartels b/c the Steward Health bankruptcy and Rick Scott’s time at the head of HCA scream ‘little better than drug traffickers.’
Drug traffickers at least provide a fucking product. Yes, they're absolutely horrible, they kill, torture, and enslave people in large numbers, but they have to provide a product. Insurance companies just flat offer nothing of value. This isn't me defending those cartels, Insurance is just worse.
I'm using a bit of a joke here, but the main difference is just that. The mandate of the masses is barely even a factor anymore, as if it ever was one.
