I think sorceries are mostly good about this but incantations are pretty bad about it tbh, honestly despite how few/boring most of them are I think sorceries came out pretty well in shadow of the erdtree
My mind is mostly on the full moon sorceries in the base game because I was pumped to use them but then the whole time I was just thinking "yeah pebble and carian slicer just kinda outperform everything", but the gravity stuff in the dlc did feel good
the full moon sorceries are kinda weird because they probably don't do enough damage but the magic defense shred on them is like, pretty notable and they do let you dodge some attacks (I don't remember if they're actual invul but they do weird things to your hurtbox)
tbh I think elden ring making the basic sorceries the best ones is pretty correct for a lot of reasons but it does mean you really have to finagle some use cases for a lot of the spells in the game especially when they're bombastic world ending crap that does comparable damage for way more effort
I think its cool that they don't stop being useful but i'd like it if there was like, a better workhorse option for dedicated int builds instead of having them crystalize out even harder as the best stuff to use
